This was very helpful. I had tried using Gimp first and it was buggy on Windows 7. Paint.NET was much more stable. The icon is working very well now. Thanks!

@Lachlan: yeap! You're right... Prices here are insanely high, and not just in Romania, but in Europe in general :( I got my MacBook Air from the US and it cost $1.423, but had I gotten it in Romania it would have set me back an additional $600 which is an unacceptable price difference in my book at least, considering that for that kind of money you can get tons of apps, if not another computer alltogether :))

Mihai,
I'm from New Zealand but in Romania right now, and looked at getting a macbook for a friend - I could not believe how expensive they are here compared with US and even our NZ prices.... Same sentiments as you and we will be going for a standard windows based notebook.

@zesh: Thank you! Glad to help... ;) In Photoshop CS5 the process is pretty much simmilar in that you'll need to download a "save as Windows Icon file (.ico)" plugin.

Now, there are people saying that there is no such plugin available for Photoshop CS5 on Windows 7, and they may very well be right, seeing that I haven't successfully tested any.

However, I was able to find such a plugin from the guys over at Telegraphics and they say it works, plus it's free. You can download the Windows 64-bit version for Photoshop CS5 here: http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/files/ICOFormat-2.1b1-win64.zip

If it doesn't work, or they don't have a plugin targeting your exact setup, you can always write to them and I'm sure they'll be able to help ;)

And if that doesn't work, or it prooves to be too quirky and time consuming, you could always download Paint.net and follow my tutorial ;)

Let me know how it goes.

Ps: I'm asuming you use Windows. If not, I'm sure there's a similar plugin available for your OS...
